Our Field Hospital Impression

The Twelfth Virginia started doing an impromptu impression of a Confederate field hospital several years ago. Gradually, the presentation has grown and taken on a life of it's own. Although we are not the best doing this, and we do not have thousands of dollars invested in original medical equipment, we have acquired a good reputation for presenting an accurate and engaging portrayal.

We do this impression several times a year, often by invitation. The most effort usually goes into the "1863" segment of our annual lantern tour at Meadow Farm Park in Henrico County, Virginia. We strive to educate the public, while giving them a graphic view of the horrid realities of Civil War field surgery. All presentations are begun with an introduction, and followed up with a discussion that usually features a lively question and answer session.

Although our medical staff has no actual medical personnel, they strive very hard to use the correct uniforms, equipment, and medical methods. Much research has gone into our impression.
